Inspiration for the movie “Cool Runnings”, Member of first Jamaican Bobsled Team and top Motivational & Inspirational speaker

Devon Harris Speaker

The inspirational story of Devon Harris”” personal triumph over adversity has been watched by millions in the Disney hit movie, “Cool Runnings”. Chronicling his journey from the slums of Kingston, Jamaica to the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, England, the amazing story behind Jamaica””s first Winter Olympic team continues to captivate and challenge audiences around the globe.

The unbelievable story remains remarkable – a band of misfit Jamaican athletes unite to form the country””s first bobsled team to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. Although the movie captured the heart and experiences of the team, the personal story of Devon Harris is itself a tale fit for Hollywood. Devon refused to accept the limitations placed on him by birth and society and chose to live a life free of the word “impossible.”

Born on Christmas Day in 1964, Devon was given a wonderful gift. His father imparted to him the belief that positive attitude and focused determination would carry an individual further than perceived injustice and a resentful heart. While the slums of Jamaica brought an understanding of suffering, Devon quickly learned that tears of laughter are much more powerful than tears of rage. It was during these years that his never-say-die attitude was firmly embedded in his heart and mind.

Today, Devon Harris has spoken to hundreds of thousands of individuals with a challenge to embrace life””s obstacles and learn from each failure. When not traveling to speak, he oversees the growth and development of The Keep On Pushing Foundation. The Foundation””s principle mission is to nourish the bodies, minds and spirits of students in impoverished areas around the world. With adequate physical and emotional growth, the children will be empowered to reach their full potential and achieve great dreams. Devon also serves as ambassador for Right to Play, an athlete-driven, humanitarian non-profit organization utilizing sport/play to enhance child development and grow community for youth in refugee camps and disadvantaged communities throughout the world.
